Sustainable construction
Flexible, sustainable and versatile construction
The vision for the Savilahti area is to create a high-quality, time-conscious and well-considered (both in terms of appearance and construction materials) urban environment where future users can feel at home. The aim is to design and build versatile and sustainable buildings that utilise resources wisely. Buildings will be designed to be multi-purpose and adaptable.
In construction, materials that are as sustainable as possible are preferred: timber, recycled or recyclable materials, materials with a sustainable life cycle, and domestic materials. In construction solutions, greenness and nature-inspired solutions are particularly favoured.
The aim is to create an urban environment that is comfortable and safe also during the construction period. The generation of waste will be minimised already during construction.
Utilisation of recycled materials in the construction of infrastructure
The City aims to systematically increase the utilisation of recycled materials in its earth and infrastructure construction. Recycled materials can be used in place of natural rock materials, and it may provide economic and environmental savings.
In Savilahti, recycled materials such as crushed concrete and bottom and fly ash obtained from Kuopion Energia are systematically utilised in infrastructure construction, for example in the structures of the Sarastuskaari bicycle and pedestrian route.
