Savilahti is designed to be as carbon neutral as possible and to generate and utilise renewable energy. Solar and geoenergy, for example, will be generated and utilised in various ways in the area.

Kuopion Energia will provide district heating and cooling services for the entire Savilahti area. The proximity of water enables the energy-efficient cooling of properties with district cooling systems. The water of the Neulalahti basins of Lake Kallavesi will be used for cooling.

The starting point for the planning process is for the area to be energy-efficient throughout its entire life cycle. The energy-efficiencyof solutions is ensured by the careful selection of construction materials, the construction of multi-purpose facilities, new lighting solutions, and other technical systems. Another important goal for the Savilahti area is the construction of smart energy networks and the development of energy demand response solutions.
