Light Waves (Valon aallot)

Katos, jossa aaltomaisia kuvioita.

Light Waves, completed in the early 2023 for the new overpass in Yliopistonranta (Valon aallot bridge), was designed by visual artist Ari Pelkonen. Discussing the theme of science through the concept of light, Valon aallot comprises the graphic concrete elements of the supporting wall of the overpass, the surface pattern of the polycarbonate roof of the stairs leading to the bus stop, and the special lighting projected onto the walls of the underpass, which were implemented by Ramboll Finland Oy in collaboration with the artist. The aim is to increase the attractiveness of pedestrian and bicycle traffic and public transport by means of art and well-considered lighting, while taking user-orientedness into account.

Waveform lines that progress organically are repeated in the motif designed for the overpass area. In the lined sections of the motif, the artist has examined the concepts of transition and repetition often attributed to the concept of light and the movement of repeated waves in the space.
