Circle of Light
Savilahti’s unique flow of natural light has inspired us to utilise light in developing the area. The Circle of Light, or Valon kaava, project is an overall idea of light in every corner of Savilahti. Through art, light creates experiences. It brings the area together and strengthens its distinctive character and identity.
In Savilahti, light is present in the names, art, design, lighting, and the utilisation of natural light. Light is also a special area of expertise for the local educational institutions and businesses. Light is landmarks, signage, and events. It is an emotion, a feeling, an activity: the light of life, brilliant thoughts and bright moments.
Well-thought-out design and alternation between light and dark have inspired the creation of a dynamic, distinctive and comfortable area. The Circle of Light helps to create life in Savilahti around the clock and throughout the year.
As part of the Circle of Light project, a Lighting, design, culture and art programme has been prepared for Savilahti.
Lighting, design, culture and art programme
The Lighting, design, culture and art programme helps to create light art and art inspired by light, lighting solutions that activate people, and inspirational experiences and events for Savilahti. Inclusive activities related to the light art and annual events provide a foundation for communality and well-being. The aim is to invite people to observe their surroundings and create lively activities in Savilahti around the clock and throughout the year.
The programme has been prepared collaboratively with local actors and city residents. Thoughts and ideas have been collected from the public by means of a photography competition, a survey, a walking tour and workshops. The programme discusses, for example, the themes of art and how they are reflected in the area, the use of light in the area, and the placement of art, design, and event venues.
Creating an inspiring environment
The art created for Savilahti ranges from large environmental pieces to art built into the engineering structures and to the solutions directly integrated into construction and e.g. facades. Art will also be used during the construction period in on-site solutions that improve the attractiveness of the area.
The Savilahti area is also aiming to implement a uniform, harmonious urban lighting solution, and to reach this goal, the property owners, builders and the City work in close collaboration on coordinating the construction projects. The Circle of Light project coordinator is actively involved in the construction projects from the beginning. This will help make Savilahti a high-quality, attractive and inspiring environment.
