Savilahti will be built into a neighbourhood that supports communality and promotes the wise use of resources, circular economy and life cycle economy. A sustainable city is the cross-cutting theme for the area.

The City aims to implement new and innovative low-carbon circular economy solutions in Savilahti that also serve as examples for other urban development projects.

In Savilahti, the idea of communality is realised in facilities and solutions that encourage communality, in art that encourages encounters between people, and in the fact that the planning and development work is carried out in collaboration with the local actors and residents.

Sustainability means that the ecological, economic, social and cultural aspects of sustainability are all taken into account in the design and construction of the area. Kuopio aims to become a city with zero emissions, zero waste and a sustainable consumption level.
